The Mengo Chief Magistrate’s Court has handed down one-year jail terms to eight primary school teachers convicted of examination malpractice in Kasanda district.
The offence occurred during the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), according to court proceedings. The group included the Director of Nkoba Primary School and the District Inspector of Kasanda, who prematurely opened exam materials, photographed them, and shared the images electronically with others.
UNEB lawyer Annet Kemali explained that the teachers sold these photos to schools nationwide and distributed answer guides that circulated widely across the country.
All eight pleaded guilty, which expedited the trial. Chief Magistrate Adams Byarugaba noted their pleas saved court time but emphasized the sentence as a stern warning to potential offenders.
They will serve their terms in a government prison and face further consequences, including disciplinary action and license cancellations.
This marks the fifteenth person prosecuted from Kasanda over the same irregularities, including teachers and scouts.
