NUP's Gracious Kadondi Wins Makerere Guild Presidency as 92nd Leader

Gracious Kadondi, representing the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been elected as the 92nd Guild President of Makerere University. The announcement sparked jubilant scenes on campus, with her supporters chanting, singing, and displaying banners after the results were revealed in a virtual session by the University Electoral Commission.
Kadondi garnered 6,801 votes in a competitive race involving 13 candidates. Runner-up Hannah Karema (Independent) received 5,787 votes, followed by Peter Kyanja Claveri with 1,493, Daniel Nyaika with 1,147, and others trailing further, including NRM’s Jimmy Tebakor with 184 votes.
The election utilized the university’s electronic voting system, marking the fifth such presidency. Thursday saw bustling activity across campus, especially at the Yusuf Lule Central Teaching Facility where results were projected. Security forces like UPDF and FFU ensured order amid the excitement.
Voting proceeded smoothly, though some students encountered issues logging into the mobile platform. The high-stakes race drew candidates from various political groups, captivating national attention.
In her pre-announcement pledge, Kadondi committed to electoral reforms, advocating for physical campaigns and voting with verifiable declaration forms to boost transparency and trust.
