Officials from the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) have distributed improved male Mubende goats to 15 farmers’ groups in Zombo district. This move aims to enhance crossbreeding and boost overall livestock productivity.

The delivery, led by research officer John Etin, also included Super Napier grass cuttings and Mulato II (Brachiaria spp.) for a demonstration garden in Uwope Cell, Abira East Ward, Zombo town council. NARO trained the Zombo Town Council Goat Farmers’ Group to kick off the pilot project.

Etin highlighted the Mubende breed’s adaptability to West Nile conditions and its superior traits. Similar efforts are underway in Nebbi, Pakwach, Madi-Okollo, and Yumbe, with plans for broader demonstrations across the region’s parishes.

Dr. Jimmy Pithua, a district official, confirmed receipt of the goats promised in December 2025 and pledged monitoring and technical support. He urged farmers to collaborate for successful breeding.

Local farmers like Denis Onega and Michael Cwothembo called for more bucks to expand benefits. District production officer Dr. Walter Kumakech and agricultural officer Patrick Aneniu encouraged crossbreeding to upgrade local breeds and promote commercial farming for higher incomes.
