In late 2023, Capital Chicken’s offices in Kampala closed without warning, exposing what many now call Uganda’s most lucrative scam. The company had lured investors with attractive returns from what it claimed was a thriving poultry business.

Thousands of Ugandans, including small savers and professionals, poured money into the scheme, believing in quick profits from chicken rearing. Instead, it operated as a classic Ponzi operation, paying early investors with funds from newcomers.

Directors reportedly fled with billions of shillings, leaving behind devastated clients who lost life savings. The fallout highlighted gaps in financial oversight, with calls for stricter regulations on investment firms.

This scandal has eroded trust in informal investment opportunities, prompting authorities to investigate similar operations.
