Christopher Okello Onyum, a 38-year-old suspect, faced Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court on April 7, 2026, charged with the murder of four toddlers at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme centre.
He arrived around 4:07 PM, surrounded by police, military, and undercover officers, as crowds gathered to see the man behind the shocking incident that occurred on April 2.
Grade One Magistrate Aidah Nanjala read the charges: murder of Gideon Eteku (2), Keisha Agenrwot (2), Ignatius Sseruyange (3), and Ryan Odeke (2), under Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act. Onyum did not enter a plea, as the court lacks jurisdiction over capital offenses.
Led by Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya and Ann Kiiza, prosecutors requested a short adjournment to wrap up remaining investigations. The magistrate ordered his remand to Luzira Prison, with the case set for mention on April 8 at 2 PM.
Tension rose post-session when other inmates in holding cells shouted demands to confront Onyum, prompting security to rush him to the prison bus for safety.
Earlier, Onyum refused to record a charge and caution statement. Reports detail how he posed as a parent, paid Shs180,000 in fees, joined the children in play, then stabbed them. Locals caught him fleeing, but police intervened to avert mob action, firing warning shots before his transfer to Kabalagala Police Station.
The attack has ignited public fury and calls for better security at childcare facilities.
