Sheba Ronah Ampaire’s promotion to Deputy Chief Executive Officer at FUFA has sparked both celebration and discussion within Uganda’s football community. Announced last week as part of a management restructuring, she now serves as second-in-command to CEO Edgar Watson Ssuubi.

In an exclusive interview, Ampaire shared her enthusiasm: ‘I am excited… I am the first female to rise to such a top position at FUFA. I am ready to serve the game of football.’ Colleagues, including executive members like Ronnie Kalema and Deo Mutabazi, congratulated her during the chat.

With a law degree from Makerere University and no playing background, Ampaire has risen through competence. She holds an MBA from UCAM in Spain, FIFA Professional Club Management Certification, and FUFA’s Famaco III. Her legal work has streamlined judicial processes, reduced court cases against FUFA, and boosted integrity.

Ampaire credits mentor Denis Lukambi for her growth and highlights experiences across Africa, from Morocco to Ethiopia. She views challenges in football’s unique legal landscape as opportunities for learning.

In her new role, she will collaborate with division heads like Samuel Bakiika Mubiru (Finance and Corporate Governance) and Humphrey Mandu Watenga (Services, Research Planning and Projects). Her focus: supporting the CEO in executing executive decisions aligned with FUFA’s strategic plan.

The appointment underscores FUFA’s push for women in leadership, alongside figures like Azah Taibu and Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi on the executive, and directors Hajati Aisha Nalule and Julian Bbosa Namuganga.

New FUFA Top Management Team:

  • Edgar Watson Ssuubi: CEO
  • Sheba Ronah Ampaire: Deputy CEO
  • Samuel Bakiika Mubiru: Finance and Corporate Governance
  • Humphrey Mandu Watenga: Services, Research Planning and Projects
  • And others including Shawn Mubiru, Ahmed Hussein Marsha, and more.
