Police in Uganda’s Apac district are investigating a brutal panga attack that left seven students from Apac Seed Secondary School injured on Sunday night.
The victims include senior four students Ivan Ojok Okabo, Jonathan Oyile, Sam Ocen, and Bruce Awany, along with senior three pupils Jonathan Alele, Ronald Odongo, and Bonny Odur.
According to preliminary reports, a suspect entered the school grounds and was spotted near the girls’ dormitory around 10:00 pm. A student tried to check his identity, but the man jumped the fence and fled, drawing pursuers outside.
North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema explained that the first student chasing the suspect was ambushed by a gang armed with pangas. His alarm brought six more students to help, but they faced about 15 attackers.
All seven suffered cuts, with three enduring grave injuries to the head, neck, hands, and ribs. They received care at Apac Main Hospital.
A team including K9 units has searched the scene to hunt the suspects, who remain at large. This follows a separate stabbing of four toddlers in Kampala’s Ggaba, with no confirmed connection.
