President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the Judiciary to prioritize and fast-track the trial of the suspect in the brutal murder of four toddlers at a daycare in Ggaba, Kampala. The proceedings should occur via a mobile court at the crime scene, allowing residents to observe justice in action.

Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo relayed the directive during the funeral of retired Supreme Court Justice Augustine Nshimye. She emphasized handling the case quickly under public interest exceptions, bypassing standard queues.

The shocking attack happened on April 2, 2026, when Christopher Okello Onyum allegedly stabbed four children aged one to two years and injured another at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme. The suspect reportedly posed as a parent before the assault.

Ggaba lacks a High Court, making the new mobile court system ideal. Launched recently by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija, it enables hearings in public spaces to improve access, especially in remote areas.

Church of Uganda Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba condemned the killings, questioning how anyone could harm innocent children and urging caution on bail for serious offenders. State Minister Balaam Barugahara noted Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s suggestion for a military court trial due to the crime’s severity.

Following the incident, the daycare was closed by State Minister John Chrysostom Muyingo.
