Four Fatal Incidents Rock Kigezi Region Over Four Days
Police in Uganda's Kigezi region reported four deaths in separate events spanning April 3 to 7, including traffic accidents, a brutal beating, and a suspected murder. Four individuals lost their lives in distinct incidents across the Kigezi region within just four days, according to police statements. Three cases occurred in Kisoro District, with one in neighboring Rukungiri District.
On April 7 at around 6:40 a.m., 25-year-old Urban Uwayezu was struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle at Kanyabukungu village along the Kisoro-Kabale highway.
The previous day, April 6, authorities discovered the body of 70-year-old Benon Nsekerabaro at Nyakagezi trading center. He had reportedly gone out for a social evening on Easter Sunday and was attacked by assailants on his way home. Investigators recovered a bloodied iron bar and two broken teeth from the scene, leading to the arrest of the bar’s owner for questioning.
In Rukungiri District on April 5, 26-year-old motorcyclist Rogers Abisinguza died instantly after allegedly speeding and hitting a pedestrian at Kakirago II cell in Bugangari Sub County along the Rukungiri-Kihihi road.
The first incident took place on April 3, when 43-year-old taxi driver Godfrey Sanvura’s body was found along the road at Nturo trading center near a fuel station in Kisoro. A homicide team examined the scene, gathered witness statements, and sent the body for postmortem at Kisoro Hospital.
Kigezi police spokesperson Elly Maate condemned reckless driving and riding, calling on residents to help apprehend the perpetrators.
