Brazilian authorities have placed China’s BYD, a major electric vehicle manufacturer, on an official registry known as the ‘dirty list.’ This list targets employers found guilty of exploiting workers under conditions akin to modern slavery.

The decision stems from investigations revealing poor labor practices at BYD’s facilities in Brazil. Workers reportedly faced excessive hours, inadequate safety measures, and substandard living conditions.

BYD, which has been expanding its operations in Brazil to meet growing demand for EVs, now faces potential fines and restrictions on hiring. The company has acknowledged past issues and pledged reforms.

This blacklist serves as a warning to multinational firms operating in Brazil about strict labor enforcement.
