A group of unidentified criminals launched a brutal attack on Apac Seed Secondary School in Apac District, northern Uganda, on Easter Sunday evening. Seven students suffered injuries from machetes and knives during the confrontation around 10pm.

North Kyoga regional police spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident. Detectives from Apac Central Police Station are probing the event. Initial findings show one suspect was spotted near the girls’ dormitory, prompting male students to investigate.

The suspect escaped by scaling the fence, but a pursuing student was ambushed by about 15 attackers. Six more students rushed to help and were hacked, with three sustaining serious cuts to the head, neck, hands, and ribs.

Police quickly responded, rushing six injured students to Apac General Hospital for treatment. A joint team including the K9 Unit has inspected the scene, aided by victims who can identify some assailants. The motive remains unknown.

The victims are Ivan Okabo (S4), Jonathan Alele (S3), Sam Ocen (S4), Bruce Awany (S4), Ronald Odongo (S3), Bonny Odur (S3), and Jonathan Oyile (S4).

This attack follows a deadly incident on April 2, 2026, where a man killed four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre in Kampala. Uganda has a grim history of school violence, including the 1996 Aboke abductions, 1998 Kichwamba massacre, and 2023 Lhubiriha attack that claimed over 40 lives.

Authorities are urging better security and access controls in schools to prevent further tragedies.
