SC Villa secured their spot in the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinals after defeating underdogs Happy Boys Kagaba 1-0 at Kagaba Primary School Ground in Kassanda on Monday evening.

Andrew Otim netted the winner 18 minutes from full time, converting Reagan Mpande’s flicked header from a Patrick Kakande nod-down with a clinical left-footed finish. This marked Otim’s second goal in the tournament, following a fortuitous late strike against Maroons in the previous round.

Happy Boys had impressed throughout, advancing past Kigezi Homeboyz and Six O’Clock on penalties. They created the better chances, forcing Villa keeper David Lukwago into a triple save and a crucial tip-over from a long-range effort on the uneven pitch.

Despite their resilience, the nine-time champions proved too strong, denying Happy Boys a fairy-tale run and continuing Villa’s pursuit of a first final since 2015.

Other quarterfinal results: Kitara 3-0 Express, URA 2-2 (4-2 pens) KCCA, NEC 0-0 (3-4 pens) Vipers.
