President Yoweri Museveni has approved a second five-year term for Robert Mukiza as Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), highlighting his transformative impact on the organization.
In a letter dated March 16 to Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, Museveni commended Mukiza for injecting stability and fresh momentum, which enhanced investor trust and positioned Uganda as a prime spot for local and foreign capital.
Mukiza’s first term delivered key wins, including Uganda being named Africa’s best investment destination at the AIM Global Investment Awards in Abu Dhabi for 2022, 2023, and 2024. Bank of Uganda figures show foreign direct investment climbing from $2.99 billion in 2023-24 to $3.5 billion recently.
The UIA licensed 481 projects in 2024-25, expected to generate over 53,000 jobs. Services improved via the One-Stop Centre, cutting license issuance to 24 hours from 48, while securing 57,000 acres for industry and operationalizing 10 parks.
Museveni directed the UIA to prioritize industrial and business parks for value addition, manufacturing, and jobs. He stressed strategic land acquisition to fuel industrialization toward a $500 billion economy in a decade under the Tenfold Growth Strategy.
This vision, resting on agro-industrialization, tourism, minerals, and tech, aims for double-digit GDP growth and a 25% tax-to-GDP ratio, as noted by Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi.
