Happy Boys Kagaba, regional underdogs from the fourth division, take on SC Villa in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals this afternoon at Kagaba Primary School playground in Kassanda District. The minnows have stunned fans by reaching this stage through resilience, beating Kigezi Homeboyz and Six O’Clock on penalties.

For the nine-time champions, known as the Jogoos, history and pride aren’t enough. They face a tactical challenge on a perimeter-less pitch designed to unsettle big teams. Coach Zeljko Kovacevic is set to field a strong lineup including Frank Ssebuufu, Hassan Mubiru, Najib Yiga, Patrick Kakande, and Denis Otim to break through early and quiet the home crowd.

Kagaba’s Coach Simon Ggita will likely adopt a cautious approach, sitting deep to disrupt Villa’s play and counter-attack. Their penalty prowess could be key if the match goes the distance.

Villa advanced past Maroons 1-0 in the last round but carry the weight of an 11-year cup drought. Sitting fourth in the Uganda Premier League, a win here boosts their Caf Confederation Cup hopes and preps them for a KCCA derby.

Stopping threats like Patrick Kakande will be crucial for Kagaba’s fairytale to continue.
