On Easter Monday, April 6, 2026, the Ggaba Community Church in Kampala hosted a somber requiem service for four children slain at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme in Makindye Division on April 2.

The attack left parents and relatives in deep sorrow, with some collapsing during prayers and tributes. Wails echoed through the church, interspersed with prolonged silences honoring the young victims: Gideon Eteku (2), Kaise Alungat (2), Ignatius Sserwange (3), and Ryan Odeke (2).

Church elders, led by Anthony Amuk, urged officials to accelerate the probe, emphasizing the need for answers to allow families closure and the daycare to reopen.

Legal advisor Stanley Okecho defended the facility’s 20-year record of caring for malnourished children under strict supervision. He clarified that the suspect posed as a parent registering a child, and caregivers were present—one was injured defending the kids with a bicycle struck by the attacker.

Kabalagala Division Police Commander Sydney Ayikoyo confirmed 39-year-old Christopher Okello Onyum’s arrest, crediting community help. He noted ongoing investigations into the motive and background, promising updates, while advising better security measures like hiring licensed guards.
