Authorities in Soroti City have detained four suspects over the brutal robbery and murder of Patricia Kokunda, a 34-year-old prominent mobile money agent.

The attack occurred on Friday morning along Moroto Road near Goalman Supermarket. Kokunda was yanked from a commuter taxi by assailants while heading to Ocorimongin cattle market in Katakwi District for business. They shot her multiple times, stole over Shs30 million, and fled.

She was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital but succumbed to excessive bleeding from gunshot wounds. Her body was later taken to Kazo District for burial. Kokunda leaves behind four children.

East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Ibrahim Saiga reported swift action: Alex Okello and Felix Onego were arrested on the incident day. Simon Epeu, alias Iboda, was nabbed in Anyara, Kalaki District, with Shs7 million recovered. The suspected shooter, Alfred Elacu, was apprehended on April 4 in Orungo, Amuria District. Police also found her smartphone discarded in Kichinjani Ward bush.

Investigations continue to recover more evidence and clarify the attack details. Saiga urged public vigilance.

Colleagues remembered Kokunda as a fixture in Soroti’s mobile money scene for nearly 15 years. She had recently eyed a land purchase in Amen Ward, Soroti City West Division, but it remained incomplete.
