US Rescues Injured Pilot from Iran as Trump Sets Monday Deadline Amid Escalating Tensions

The United States successfully rescued an injured F-15 pilot behind enemy lines after Iran downed his jet, marking a key success in the ongoing war now in its sixth week. The US military conducted a daring search and rescue operation to save the last remaining crew member from an F-15 fighter jet shot down by Iranian air defenses. President Donald Trump hailed it as one of the most remarkable missions in US history, noting the colonel was injured but expected to recover fully.

This rescue comes amid a conflict that has lasted six weeks, resulting in thousands of deaths, an energy crisis, and threats to the global economy due to Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for one-fifth of the world’s oil and LNG.

Trump issued a stern ultimatum on Truth Social, giving Iran 48 hours until Monday at 10 a.m. ET to strike a peace deal or reopen the strait, threatening severe retaliation including attacks on power plants. Israel has signaled readiness to target Iranian energy facilities soon, pending US approval.

Iran remains defiant, warning of regional hellfire if escalation continues. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed openness to Pakistan-brokered talks for a lasting end to the ‘illegal war,’ while highlighting risks from recent strikes near the Bushehr nuclear plant.

Tensions persist with Iranian drone and missile attacks on US-linked sites in the UAE and Kuwait, an Israel-affiliated ship in the strait, and joint operations with Houthis, Hezbollah, and others against Israel.
