Ugandan artist Elijah Kitaka has sharply criticized the state of the local music industry, claiming it trails global standards by 1500 years. During a recent TikTok Live session, he expressed doubts about the impact of the impending Copyright Amendment Bill.

Kitaka stressed that the sector’s core problems go beyond legislation, pointing to widespread ignorance about copyright among musicians. He noted that artists often skip essential workshops, focusing instead on casual discussions rather than education.

The singer, who aims to break into international markets, insisted his comments aim to spotlight necessary improvements, not to belittle local talent. He urged prioritizing knowledge-sharing and training sessions to equip artists for global competition and real benefits from new laws.
