Makerere University Approves 9 New Appointments and 14 Promotions Across Faculties

Makerere University’s Appointments Board concluded its 788th meeting on April 1, 2026, approving nine fresh appointments and 14 promotions to address staffing shortages and boost service delivery.
The new hires, detailed in a Directorate of Human Resources list signed by Chief Officer Deus Tayari Mujuni on April 2, include four assistant lecturers: Nicholas Kainerugaba and Suzan Habert Sendege from Statistical Methods and Actuarial Sciences, Mary Concepta Nalwanga from Nursing, and Robert Kaduyu from Surgery at the College of Health Sciences.
Additional appointments feature Caroline Namanya as Mathematics lecturer, Derrick Orishaba as Senior Assistant Technician in ICT, Martin Egau as Dental Technologist, Damalie Mukhaye as Vice Chancellor’s Communications Officer, and Laymon Kalema as Technician in Immunology and Molecular Biology. All are four-year contracts.
Promotions span multiple levels. Three academics rose to Professor: Joseph Ochieng (Anatomy), Annettee Olivia Nakimuli (Obstetrics and Gynecology), and Angelo Kakande (Industrial Art and Applied Design).
Four advanced to Associate Professor: Joshua Wanyama (Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering), Venny Mary Nakazibwe (Industrial Art and Applied Design), Timothy Tebenkana (Humanities and Language Education), and Muhammed Musoke Kiggundu (Humanities and Language Education).
Senior Lecturer promotions went to Laban Musinguzi Kashaija (Social Work and Social Administration), Charlotte Kalungi Mafumbo (History, Archaeology and Heritage Studies), and Dominic D.B Makwa (Performing Arts and Film).
Four were elevated to Lecturer: Ivan Bamweyana and Diana Rose Abeho (Geomatics and Land Management), Candia Douglas Andabati (Planning and Applied Statistics), and Moses Ssekimpi (Humanities and Language Education).
Dr. Muhammed Musoke Kiggundu, now Associate Professor, called it a major milestone from rigorous efforts, noting the high standards at Makerere for supervising students through various degree levels.
These changes support Makerere’s push to strengthen academic staff and output.
