Police in Kampala have arrested Christopher Okello Onyumu in connection with the brutal murders of four children at a daycare facility in Ggaba. The incident has horrified the community and prompted deeper scrutiny into the suspect’s history.
Onyumu, who spent nearly 20 years in the United States, returned to Uganda in November 2025. He first stayed with his parents in Bunga, then moved to his family land in Nyoya for farming, before renting an apartment in Kyanja just two weeks before the attack.
Investigators report that Onyumu scouted the daycare by pretending to enroll a child. He sent Shs 180,000 via mobile money and bought two large padlocks. On the day of the incident, he returned under the guise of finalizing admission and allegedly stabbed the four children to death.
Disturbing revelations have surfaced about Onyumu’s past. Authorities are probing allegations that he was involved in his stepbrother’s death in 2017 under suspicious circumstances, though no charges were filed then.
Onyumu remains in custody while police investigate his motives and any overlooked red flags. The tragedy has heightened fears over child safety in educational settings across Kampala.
