Government scientists in Uganda have raised alarms over the rapid loss of forest cover, which is estimated at 200,000 hectares annually. This deforestation, primarily driven by encroachment, is significantly slowing down crucial research initiatives.

The destruction of natural habitats not only threatens biodiversity but also limits access to study sites essential for ongoing scientific work. Researchers are finding it increasingly difficult to conduct fieldwork as forests shrink.

Authorities emphasize the need for urgent action to curb these activities and protect remaining woodlands to safeguard both the environment and scientific progress.
