The family of Abdallah Mugoya, a 32-year-old resident of Nambaale Village in Buwunga Sub-county, Bugiri District, is calling for justice after he was allegedly shot dead by police officer Innocent Nuwagaba over a Shs500 disagreement.

Bashir Mugoya, the victim’s father, urged the Uganda Police Force to cover burial costs, provide family support, and hold those responsible accountable. He described the police raid on their home as unannounced and in darkness, with some officers not in uniform.

Nathan Mugoya, village general secretary and neighbor, criticized the police for not involving local leaders in the operation. He questioned why a trivial matter escalated to lethal force and suggested the shooter might have been intoxicated.

East Busoga Regional Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed that Nuwagaba, the Officer in Charge at Buwunga Police Post, and Corporal Stephen Okwalinga are in custody aiding investigations. He advised the family to stay calm and warned against attacking officers, claiming residents confronted them with weapons, prompting warning shots.
