Easter weekend kicks off with excitement in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals. URA will host rivals KCCA at Nakivubo Stadium on Saturday at 3pm in what’s dubbed the ‘Authorities derby.’ Kitara follows up by welcoming Express to Butema on Sunday at 3pm.
These teams have shown firepower on their path to the last eight. KCCA crushed Onduparaka 5-0, URA beat Tapo 3-0, Kitara demolished Bunyaruguru 6-0, and Express dispatched Red Devo 4-0. Expect potential goal fests if they maintain that form.
The spotlight shines on the URA-KCCA matchup. URA, three-time champions under coach Hussein Mbalangu, face KCCA’s ten-time winners led by co-coaches Brian Ssenyondo and Jackson Magera. Both squads have struggled in the league, eyeing the Cup for glory.
KCCA’s attack is diverse, with all eight Cup goals from different players. Emmanuel Anyama tops with three, joined by Saidi Mayanja, Sammy Ssebaduka, Alex Yiga, Fillbert Obenchan, and Ivan Ahimbisibwe. URA’s discipline could test them.
Sunday’s Kitara vs Express adds emotion, as coach Wasswa Bbosa faces his former club. Kitara, trailing Vipers by four points with nine league games left, sees this as a key tune-up before their April 10 title-deciding showdown.
Knockout ties hinge on fine margins and execution, setting the stage for thrilling action.
