Downed US Jets Escalate Risks for Trump as Iran Searches for Missing Pilot

Two US warplanes have been shot down over Iran and the Gulf, leaving one pilot missing amid an intense search by Iranian forces, while 13 American troops have died and over 300 wounded in the ongoing conflict. The incidents challenge US claims of air superiority as tensions rise with no ceasefire in sight. Two US military aircraft—a two-seat F-15E jet and an A-10 Warthog—were downed by Iranian fire on Friday, according to officials from both nations. While two pilots were rescued, a third remains missing, with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps actively searching southwestern Iran for the individual.

Blackhawk helicopters aiding the rescue faced Iranian fire but escaped Iranian airspace safely. The injuries sustained by the crews are not yet detailed publicly.

These events highlight ongoing dangers for US and Israeli planes despite President Donald Trump’s assertions of complete aerial dominance, alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Trump is receiving live updates from the White House on the search operation.

The conflict, sparked by US and Israeli strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, shows no end. US Central Command reports 13 American service members killed and more than 300 wounded. Iran has rejected ceasefire talks mediated by Pakistan.

Amid escalating threats, Trump warned of strikes on Iranian bridges and power plants, posting footage of a recent hit on the B1 bridge near Tehran. Iran retaliated by targeting a Kuwaiti power and water plant, exposing Gulf vulnerabilities. Drone attacks also struck Kuwait’s Mina al-Ahmadi refinery and other regional sites.

Iranians celebrated the downings online, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf claiming the war has shifted against the US and Israel. Oil prices surged 11% amid fears of prolonged fighting.
