Speaker Anita Among joined mourners at Christ Church in Gulu for the funeral of Nathan Okori on March 30, 2026. Okori, who died on March 20, was the father of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

Among described Okori as a personal father figure, linked through her close bond with Oulanyah. ‘We lost a dad… he had become a father to me through his son,’ she said, reflecting on Oulanyah’s brilliance as a lawyer and leader.

She committed to supporting the family, promising aid for education and logistics. ‘We will never let the family walk alone,’ Among assured, urging others to emulate Okori’s impactful life.

Among donated Shs10 million and nine cows, with Parliament offering institutional help. President Yoweri Museveni sent condolences via Shs20 million, praising Okori for raising patriotic leaders like Oulanyah.

The service attracted dignitaries including former Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, family, and locals honoring Okori’s long, influential life.
