Police in Bugiri District are probing the death of 32-year-old Abdallah Mugoya, who was shot by an officer at his home in Nambaale Village, Buwunga sub-county.

The early Friday incident at 4:40am involved officers attempting to arrest Mugoya’s 15-year-old brother, Nafilu, for assault linked to a dispute over an unpaid chapati worth Shs500. The boy had previously faced an LC1 court over eating the chapati without payment, leading to a fight with the restaurant owner.

Busoga East police spokesperson Michael Kasadha stated that relatives attacked officers with pangas, sticks, and stones to free the suspect. Officers fired in self-defense, tragically killing Abdallah Mugoya.

The deceased’s father, Bashir Magemeso, recounted being woken by dogs as police entered and shot his son during the arrest. Magemeso himself suffered chest injuries.

Mugoya’s body was taken to Bugiri General Hospital for postmortem, with investigations continuing.
