Kampala police have taken 34-year-old Christopher Okello Onyu into custody at Kabalagala Police Station following a fatal knife attack at Ggaba Early Childhood Daycare Centre in Makindye Division.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when Okello reportedly entered a classroom and stabbed four toddlers—one girl and three boys—killing them instantly. The centre, operational for about two years, had around 14 children present at the time.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, Okello had visited the daycare two days prior to seek admission for his child. He returned on the day of the attack, engaged with the administrator, paid the fees, and then attacked the children for reasons yet to be determined.

“He is in our custody and we will interrogate him today to establish the motive,” Kawala stated. Police have moved the victims’ bodies to the city mortuary and returned the other children to their parents.

Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba, along with AIGP Frank Mwesigwa and other senior officers, inspected the scene. Byakagaba urged the public to share any information about the suspect to assist investigations.
