Man Posing as Parent Stabs Four Toddlers to Death at Kampala Daycare

Residents of Ggaba, an affluent Kampala suburb, are reeling from a horrific attack at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School in Makindye Division. On April 2, 2026, Christopher Okello Onyu, 34, posed as a parent to gain entry.
Eyewitnesses reported that Okello spoke briefly with the school administrator before locking the gate and stabbing children in a classroom. Four toddlers died in the assault, with the motive still unknown.
Teachers raised the alarm, and a guard from nearby Ggaba Community Church captured the fleeing suspect. Furious locals tried to lynch him, setting a fire in protest, but police and army fired warning shots to rescue Okello and disperse the crowd.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed the deaths and arrest, stating investigations continue. Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba visited the site, urging calm and public tips on the suspect.
Distraught parents arrived seeking news of their children, as area chairperson Ben Kakooza condemned the violence and demanded quick police action.
