Kadaga Urges Ugandans to Embrace Leadership Beyond Politics at Empower Her Event

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, addressed attendees at the Nation Media Group’s Empower Her - Women Captains Edition 2026 event in Kampala. The gathering, themed ‘Claim the Seat. Shape the Future,’ united industry leaders, innovators, and advocates to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment across various sectors.
Kadaga stressed the need for leadership that goes beyond political boundaries, urging its adoption in every part of society to better serve the nation. She emphasized inclusive leadership, mentorship, and shifting from mere discussions to concrete actions for equity and sustainable development.
Nation Media Group-Uganda Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa highlighted the company’s dedication to platforms that foster leadership and collaboration for women’s advancement. The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Priscilla Regina Nalwoga, with speakers Jenny Tumukunde and Deborah Komugisha Kakande sharing insights on inclusion and decision-making roles for women.
Awards were presented in four categories: Empower Awards for organizations with at least 50% women in management, Woman of the Future Award for investing in women’s growth, Give to Gain Award for mentorship impact, and Nation Media Group ESG Leadership Award for sustainability and equity.
The Empower Her initiative spotlights women leaders, inclusive organizations, and inspires future change-makers by recognizing excellence and promoting supportive environments.
