Akaikai Primary School in Soroti District faces severe disruptions from flooding during rains, affecting 893 learners and staff. Lower primary classes become unusable, forcing pupils and teachers from Primary 1 to 5 to squeeze into Primary 6 and 7 rooms—the only ones with closed windows.

School Management Committee chair Vincent Epecu expressed worry over interrupted lessons, noting wind-driven rain makes open classrooms uninhabitable. Parent Joseph Egimu questioned how children can focus while shivering in waterlogged spaces.

Arabaka parish councillor Emmanuel Ecar called on leaders to provide a proper learning environment, lamenting that the children deserve better. Head teacher Francis Ebiacu highlighted additional woes, including theft of desks, chairs, and textbooks due to poor security in open blocks, plus overcrowding with six pupils per desk against the recommended three.

Soroti District chairperson Simon Edoru acknowledged the issue and stated plans are in progress to resolve it.
