During Holy Week, Rt Rev Reuben Kisembo, Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese, delivered an Easter message from Fort Portal urging President Yoweri Museveni to prioritize national healing in Uganda.

He specifically requested the release of political prisoners arrested during recent elections, citing Article 121 of the Constitution that empowers the President with mercy prerogatives. This act, he said, would symbolize forgiveness and peace amid the country’s needs.

The bishop encouraged Ugandans to uphold harmony post-elections, stressing stability for development, and drew parallels to Jesus Christ’s crucifixion where a prisoner was freed.

Additionally, he challenged MPs and Cabinet members to manage public funds wisely, avoid excessive allowances, and ensure equitable resource distribution.

In the Rwenzori region, he highlighted the rising HIV rates, urging moral discipline and repentance. Globally, he called for ceasefires in conflicts involving Israel, Iran, Russia, Ukraine, and the US, and stronger UN mediation.
