The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, delivered his 2026 Easter message from Namirembe, calling on Christians and all Ugandans to prioritize reconciliation, unity, and peace as Easter approaches on April 5.

He emphasized that the Church and believers must stay rooted in Christ to foster societal harmony, quoting the Church’s theme from Ephesians 2:14–17: ‘Anchored in Christ for Unity, Stability and Peace.’ This theme reflects Easter’s core message of Christ’s resurrection breaking down divisions and reconciling people with God and each other.

Kaziimba noted ongoing efforts by Church leaders, the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, and other stakeholders to promote reconciliation after recent elections, yielding positive outcomes. ‘Uganda belongs to all of us, and it is our collective duty to protect it,’ he stated, encouraging reflection on the national and East African anthems as prayers of gratitude.

Expressing worry over instability in neighboring countries, he mentioned Uganda’s hosting of over two million refugees. His recent visit to Nakivale Refugee Settlement strengthened his resolve to advocate for peace, stressing the need for stable environments.

The Archbishop also addressed the alarming rise in substance abuse among youth, with over 70% of adolescents having tried drugs or alcohol. The Church has intensified its Drug Prevention Programme, recently launching a training manual for schools to support guidance and rehabilitation.

On environmental fronts, the Church launched a campaign to plant 15 million trees nationwide, with each diocese targeting 385,000 over two years, drawing from Genesis 2:15’s call to steward the earth.

This message underscores Easter’s foundation for lasting unity and peace.
