Vice President Jessica Alupo has assured arts teachers that the government is dedicated to resolving their salary concerns through a phased 25 percent increment, effective in the upcoming financial year from July.
Speaking at the weekend celebrations marking 120 years of King’s College Budo, Alupo emphasized ongoing dialogue with education stakeholders. “We are committed to improving the welfare of arts teachers,” she stated, urging patience as the process aligns their pay with science teachers.
The salary gap has fueled protests and strikes by arts teachers in recent years, prompting government-led talks to ensure equitable treatment.
Alupo praised King’s College Budo as a key institution in fostering disciplined leaders and paid tribute to former head teacher Canon John Fred Kazibwe. She welcomed the new head teacher, Godfrey Kasamba, encouraging him to maintain the school’s traditions.
Rt Rev Moses Banja, Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, highlighted the school’s enduring legacy during a thanksgiving service, while Buganda Kingdom representative Daudi Mpanga called it a center of excellence.
Kasamba pledged collaboration with stakeholders to preserve the institution’s heritage.
