A doctor at Pallisa General Hospital, Dr. Samuel Okiror, faced arrest after being caught demanding Shs250,000 from a pregnant woman seeking delivery services.

Pallisa Resident District Commissioner Magidu Dhikuusoka revealed that the woman’s husband, Jackson Okiror, tipped off security, prompting a trap. Officers photocopied the money and handed it to the victim, then raided the theatre room where they recovered the cash from the doctor.

Dr. Okiror was detained at Pallisa Central Police Station on charges of extortion. Dhikuusoka warned other medical staff against corruption, noting a police probe into extortion and theft of government drugs ahead of court proceedings.

Pallisa LC5 Chairperson Patrick Duchu slammed the incident as unprofessional behavior that hampers service delivery, despite adequate pay for doctors.

District Health Officer Dr. Geoffrey Mulekwa affirmed that hospital management has cautioned staff and will impose discipline, rejecting actions that tarnish the facility’s reputation.

North Bukedi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa verified the arrests of Dr. Okiror and Anthelem Zungu for corruption and abuse of office.
