This accident highlights Uganda’s rising road safety concerns. The latest police crime report for 2025 noted 26,044 road crashes, up 3.7% from 2024. Fatal crashes rose to 4,602 from 4,434, with total deaths reaching 5,383, a 4.7% increase.

Crashes peaked on Fridays and weekends, and in December, linked to higher travel and festive activities. Despite the uptick, the growth rate has slowed over five years.
