FIFA Bans Ugandan Footballer Mbazira Globally Over Match-Fixing

Ugandan player Ashraf Mbazira has received a worldwide ban from all football-related activities after being implicated in match-fixing. FIFA’s disciplinary committee issued the decision on April 1, 2026, building on a March 12, 2026, ruling by FUFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.

The ban stems from Mbazira’s involvement in manipulating a 2024 Uganda Premier League match between Kitara FC and Express FC. Under Article 70 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the penalty now applies across all member associations and competitions.

FIFA stressed its firm stance against match-fixing, which erodes the sport’s integrity. The organization continues partnering with bodies like FUFA to fight corruption and promote fair play.

FUFA communications director Ahmed Hussein endorsed the move, stating it delivers a strong warning against game manipulation. He affirmed FUFA’s dedication to collaborating with FIFA to uphold football standards in Uganda.

This case joins prior global bans on former Express FC coach Mike Mutyaba, goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa, and ex-CEO Miiro Ashraf Mwanje for the same incident, reflecting a broader push to curb match-fixing threats.
