Explosions rocked Bujumbura, Burundi’s economic hub, on Tuesday, causing widespread alarm among residents who heard blasts echoing through the city and saw smoke rising into the sky.
Army spokesperson Gaspard Baratuza explained that the incident resulted from a serious electrical short-circuit at an ammunition depot in the Musaga military camp.
Social media circulated images of thick smoke plumes and a fire visible from afar, though their authenticity remains unverified.
Baratuza advised people to remain calm, steer clear of the area, and allow emergency response teams to handle the situation.
