Alan Kasujja has taken the helm at the Uganda Media Centre, signaling a strategic shift in how the government handles public communication. Senior officials view this as more than a leadership swap—it’s a vital reset for coherent state messaging.

Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, stressed that effective communication must be timely, credible, and unified. The Media Centre plays a pivotal role in aligning voices across ministries to avoid past issues of inconsistency.

Kasujja, a former BBC World Service broadcaster, sees communication as essential to nation-building and governance. He aims to position the centre as a reliable source of verified information, especially amid rapid digital changes.

Challenges persist, including a modest annual budget of UGX 1.36 billion, limiting resources for transport, equipment, and outreach. Acting Director Obed Katureebe noted steady operations on over 200 projects but called for more funding to fulfill the hub’s potential.

Kasujja plans to boost digital presence, engage youth audiences, and fight misinformation. ICT Minister Chris Baryomunsi hailed the move as the start of harmonized government communication, including biweekly briefs and district-level position papers in local languages.

The appointment stems from a December 2025 directive by President Yoweri Museveni to formalize new leadership. Kasujja believes the narrative Uganda crafts will define its future, intertwining policy with public trust.
