Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of officially unveiling Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach. The club has agreed on the main terms of a five-year contract with the Italian manager, according to sources.

De Zerbi had initial hesitations about taking the job right away, but negotiations advanced rapidly over the last two days. Spurs now anticipate confirming the appointment in the near future.

The deal reportedly features a significant bonus tied to avoiding relegation from the Premier League. Details on any relegation safeguards remain unclear. Currently, Tottenham sit 17th in the standings, just one point clear of the drop zone, following a poor run that led to Igor Tudor’s dismissal on Sunday.

De Zerbi is set to arrive at the training ground this week to meet players returning from international breaks. He will have over a week to prepare the squad for their April 12 clash with Sunderland.

Spurs view this as a major signing, capitalizing on De Zerbi’s strong reputation in England from his Brighton days. The 46-year-old recently departed Marseille, where they sat fourth in Ligue 1 after he won over half of his 69 matches there.

During his 2022-2024 tenure at Brighton, he achieved a historic sixth-place Premier League finish, securing Europe’s first-ever qualification for the club.
