The Night an Earthworm Invaded My Bathroom and Tested My Sanity
Living alone has its perks—like eating whatever and whenever you want—but it has downsides, especially when bugs show up. They’re my one true fear, and with no one around to squash them, I’m left to fend for myself.
One night around 11 p.m., I woke up for the bathroom and flipped on the light. There, stuck to the glass door, was what looked like a snake. My heart raced as I froze in terror. A closer look revealed it was just a massive earthworm that had somehow wriggled through the drain and climbed the door.
Panicking, I rushed to the kitchen, mixed vinegar with water as an impromptu bug killer, and returned. But the worm had vanished. I sprayed the area anyway, then grabbed an old mosquito net to seal the door gap, trapping any potential escapees. I even considered hot water but nixed it—dealing with a dead worm sounded worse.
Survival mode kicked in. I doused the bathroom with insecticide and barricaded the door before heading back to bed. Morning brought clarity: this is exactly why I miss having a boyfriend or husband around. I’d wake him gently, point out the ‘monster,’ and let him handle it—probably with some teasing about my fear.
I once called a guy I was dating to remove a dead lizard; he just chased me with it instead. Even a married friend admitted she slays the bugs in her home since her husband is terrified.
Single life is freeing, but bugs? They’re the real nightmare without backup.
