FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Iran will compete in the 2026 World Cup, with all their matches taking place in the United States as originally drawn.

This statement addresses ongoing uncertainties linked to the US-Israel conflict involving Iran. Iran’s football federation had previously indicated negotiations with FIFA to shift their games to Mexico.

Infantino, speaking to AFP after watching Iran’s 5-0 friendly victory over Costa Rica in Turkey, declared: “Iran will be at the World Cup.” He praised the team as “very, very strong” and affirmed that fixtures would proceed in their assigned venues.

Iran is set to play New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, Belgium in Los Angeles on June 21, and Egypt in Seattle on June 26. The tournament, co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, kicks off on June 11.

While Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum offered to host Iran’s games if required, Infantino insisted everything is in order, having met with the players and coach.
