Marvin Kibirige has returned to Uganda after over two months competing on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), marking him as the first indigenous Ugandan to take on the circuit.

Although he missed the cut at the recent DP World PGTI Open, co-sanctioned by PGTI and the Challenge Tour, Kibirige views the trip as a major milestone. He participated in events across Ahmedabad, New Raipur, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Haryana, making several cuts.

“The India tour taught me a lot about resilience and adaptability,” Kibirige shared. “Playing in different conditions helped me understand my strengths and areas to improve.”

Adjusting to life in India since January posed initial challenges, but the golfer from Mary Louise Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge found it manageable overall. He emphasizes that the experience transcended prize money, allowing him to compete against top players he once only watched on TV.

Kibirige’s journey began humbly as a caddie near the Namulonge clubhouse, raised by his grandmother. He turned professional in 2022 out of necessity to support his family, especially during her illness. Sadly, she passed away four months before his India trip, further testing his mental strength.

These roots have built his character, turning early struggles into fuel for his ambitions in pro golf.
