The High Court in Mbarara has removed Capt John Kassami and Mr Francis Wazarwahi Bwengye as administrators of the late Boniface Muyogoma Byanyima’s estate. On March 27, Justice Allan Nshimye declined to renew their letters of administration, set to expire on May 31, after all beneficiaries objected.

The administrators sought an extension, citing unresolved court cases, ongoing government compensation, and incomplete distribution of assets. However, beneficiaries including Winnie Byanyima—wife of opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye—Anthony, Edith, Martha, and Olivia Byanyima opposed it. They argued the administrators lacked consent and failed to secure agreement for renewal.

Justice Nshimye emphasized that beneficiary wishes prevail. He noted Capt Kassami’s absence in South Sudan would stall estate transfers, hindering distribution. The court found no basis under Section 337(4) of the Succession Act to extend the grant issued in 2018.

Each party was ordered to cover its own costs. Boniface Byanyima was a key figure in Uganda’s political past, with early ties to President Museveni that later strained.
