The National Volleyball League (NVL) finals in Uganda have been thrown into chaos by eligibility controversies. Hours before the men’s Game One on Saturday, the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) upheld a petition from Elyon, stripping Nemostars of their finalist status.

Elyon, who lost their semifinal series to Nemostars 2-1, challenged the eligibility of middle blocker Salva Marial and receiver-attacker Federicko Mujinya. Marial, a South Sudanese player previously with OBB VC, lacked a valid International Transfer Certificate (ITC) in the VIS system. Despite Nemostars’ claim of a student exemption at Nkumba University, a UVF committee ruled he exceeded the age limit for bursary eligibility.

Mujinya’s case involved discrepancies in registration; he was not on Nemostars’ initial player list and had reportedly played for Bishop Stuart University earlier. The committee cited violations like missing clearances, unpaid fees, and breaching single-club rules. Nemostars dismissed the petition as baseless, vowing to appeal through UVF and higher bodies.

In women’s action, KCCA took a 3-0 lead over Vision Volleyball Camp. Lower divisions saw St. Charles Ntinda disqualified from Serie B finals over receiver-attacker Barnabus Tugume’s unregistered status after stints in Rwanda, promoting Nkumba.

Finals dates remain unannounced amid ongoing disputes. Nemostars and Sport-S are still slated for Uganda’s CAVB African Club Championship representation.
