Uganda’s events often feature disorganized drink stations with self-service crates and littered bottles, diminishing the guest experience. Daniel Ntende, a 37-year-old former bartender at Kampala’s Big Mikes cocktail bar, spotted this gap and founded KyakuNywa System to deliver bar-quality service at private functions.
Ntende’s inspiration struck during a friend’s wedding fundraiser where his cocktails impressed attendees, sparking demand. He offered free tastings to showcase professionally mixed drinks, securing his first paid gig and proving the concept’s potential.
A key hurdle was Uganda’s shortage of skilled mixologists, many lacking consistency in flavor, presentation, or creativity. Ntende invests heavily in training staff to craft precise cocktails using local ingredients, ensuring every drink meets high standards.
The name ‘KyakuNywa System’ embodies organization and reliability—‘Kyakunywa’ means drinks, and ‘System’ signifies precision. Services now include mocktails, coffee stations, fresh juices, and ushering for seamless events.
Early setbacks, like a boda boda accident destroying alcohol stock, taught Ntende to implement deposit-based payments for better risk management. His approach has redefined beverage service across Uganda’s bustling events scene.
