The Uganda Premier League (UPL) secretariat has taken a bold step by partnering with the Uganda Marketers Society (UMS) to host the inaugural Stadium Experience Tour. Marketing and brand managers visited five major stadiums in the Greater Kampala area: MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Nakivubo Stadium, Fufa Stadium Kadiba, Police Stadium in Kamwokya, and Namboole.
The event provided immersive tours, briefings, and sessions to showcase brand activation, fan engagement, and marketing possibilities. Recent renovations at Nakivubo, Namboole, and Lugogo, plus new facilities like Kadiba and Kamwokya Police Arena, highlighted investment potential.
Fufa Stadium Kadiba manager Sumaya Kiwanuka noted that further developments, combined with marketer partnerships, will attract large crowds and create vibrant brand spaces. UMS president Charity Kamusiime stressed football’s cultural role and the need for collaboration to enhance matchdays and storytelling.
UPL Chief Commercial Officer Jenkins Matovu described the tour as the beginning of ongoing stakeholder engagement to promote domestic football and elevate players as national brand ambassadors.
This comes at a pivotal time, as the league grapples with past issues like format changes, match-fixing scandals, referee suspensions, broadcasting problems, and ties to Fufa. The tour signals hope for renewed sponsor confidence and growth for the league founded in 1968.
