Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, instructed the detention of two senior UPDF officers, Maj Gen Don William Nabasa and Brig Gen Johnson Namanya Abaho, on Thursday due to alleged corruption.
The arrest order was relayed to Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Chief Inspector of the Armed Forces and Deputy CDF, who promptly acted by interrogating the generals at Mbuya for several hours before moving them to a secure location that evening.
Sources indicate the pair is now held at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Kasenyi detention facility on Entebbe Road, specifically in the quartermaster’s wing, awaiting decisions on their next transfer, possibly to Makindye Military Police Barracks.
Before their detention, Nabasa served as Joint Staff for Policy and Strategy, while Namanya had been recently recalled from his role as Commissioner for Citizenship and Passport Management at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control.
In a related move, Gen Muhoozi dismissed Brig Abdul Rugumayo, Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, replacing him with Brig Gen Oscar Munanura from the counter-intelligence unit. Rugumayo has been reassigned to Defence Headquarters in Mbuya.
These actions reflect ongoing efforts by Gen Muhoozi to enforce accountability within the UPDF since assuming his role as CDF. Military spokespersons could not be reached for comment.
