Trump Delays Strike on Iran's Energy Plants, Extends Deadline to April 7 Amid Strait of Hormuz Standoff

US President Donald Trump has pushed back his ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 10 days to April 7, following Tehran's rejection of a 15-point peace proposal. The move comes as the US confirms destruction of only a third of Iran's missiles, with the conflict escalating across the Middle East and disrupting global energy markets. US President Donald Trump has extended a 10-day grace period for Iran to resume navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, delaying potential strikes on its energy infrastructure until April 7. This follows Iran’s dismissal of a comprehensive 15-point US proposal aimed at ending the war initiated by Washington and Israel.

Iran has shown no willingness to compromise directly, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps maintaining a blockade on shipping linked to US and Israeli allies. Tehran has also warned civilians near US bases to evacuate and threatened retaliatory attacks on Gulf energy sites if Trump acts.

The US acknowledges destroying roughly one-third of Iran’s missile stockpile, per intelligence sources. Israel reports ongoing Iranian missile fire on its civilians, vowing to intensify operations against additional targets.

The conflict has claimed over 1,900 lives and injured 20,000 in Iran alone, according to the Red Cross, while Hezbollah’s assaults have displaced a fifth of Lebanon’s population. The Strait closure, handling 20% of global oil and LNG, has spiked Brent crude to $111 and US diesel prices to record highs.

Diplomatic efforts persist indirectly, with Germany noting preparations for direct talks in Pakistan, which relayed the US proposal. Iranian officials reviewed it but deemed it one-sided, though they insist channels remain open.

Recent Israeli strikes hit Tehran’s missile sites and other areas, causing civilian casualties in Qom and Urmia.
