Preparations are underway for Ugandans in South Africa to mark President Yoweri Museveni’s triumph in the 2026 elections, with high-ranking NRM figures already present for the upcoming gatherings.
Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, touched down in Johannesburg on Wednesday with other key party members. They promptly met with the Victory Party Organising Committee and the NRM diaspora group. Todwong shared a message from Museveni, stressing the election’s clear outcome and encouraging full participation in the March 28-29 events.
“There is no doubt about the President’s landslide victory. Nothing should stop members from celebrating this achievement,” Todwong stated, while advising skeptics to pursue ideological training at Kyankwanzi.
Phillip Kakuru, Senior Presidential Advisor on Trade and an event organizer, noted that logistics are set for a lively affair open to all Ugandans. He promoted joining the new SACCO to access programs like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model.
More leaders, such as Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, Tanga Odoi, and Syrian Bagamba, are slated to join. The main festivities shift to Cape Town to bolster NRM ties abroad.
A standout feature is the rollout of a diaspora SACCO, targeting over four million Ugandans overseas with $50 monthly contributions. Organizers project up to $2.5 billion yearly for ventures in real estate, healthcare, and finance, eyeing a dedicated diaspora bank.
Todwong traveled with officials like Arinaitwe Rwakajara, Maj. (Rtd) Awich, and Secretariat staff, greeted by Kakuru and Ambassador Paul Amoru.
