The 52-year-old Stanbic Uganda Cup has reached its gripping quarterfinal stage following Thursday’s draw, where no fixture looks like a walkover.
Minnows Happy Boys Kagaba from Kassanda earned their spot by ousting Six O’Clock on penalties and now host nine-time champions SC Villa at home. Villa advanced with a gritty 1-0 win over Maroons, but Happy Boys’ resilience could pose an upset threat.
In a blockbuster clash at Nakivubo Stadium, URA faces KCCA after both impressed in the last round—URA with a 3-0 rout of Tapoh and KCCA with a 5-0 thrashing of Onduparaka. KCCA’s fluid attack meets URA’s disciplined setup in a battle for redemption.
Defending champions Vipers, eyeing a domestic double, travel to Lugogo to face Nec. Vipers demolished Iganga United 4-0, while Nec showed composure in a 2-0 victory over Lugazi.
Last year’s winners Kitara welcome Express at Butema in a balanced showdown. Kitara crushed Bunyaruguru 6-0, and Express fired on all cylinders with a 4-0 win over Red Devo.
The league race adds spice, with Vipers leading Kitara by four points after 21 matches; they meet again on April 10. FUFA’s Aisha Nalule confirmed ties go to extra time and penalties if needed, with quarterfinals slated for April 1-6 and a CAF Confederation Cup berth on offer.
